An exclusive detached private villa in chania, lovingly restored by the owner. The luxurious interior combines original Cretan features with contemporary fittings. This would appeal to guests looking for luxury, privacy and modern comforts.
Originally built in the 1800's, the Papafilipakis family farm house, separated into three separate buildings, was used as a grape press, stable and chicken coop. The passage of time left the house (burnt once in the past, but not entirely) in the capable and loving hand of Nikos Papafilipakis, who in 2002 began to re-build these houses keeping the charm and history of the family farm house.
Nikos has personally done most of the building and decorating making use of the remains of the old structure (wood, tools, flour mill, old traditional oven, antique items, historical pieces and family heirlooms). From these, he has created marvelous wooden ceilings, staircases, tables, fireplaces and more. His diligent hard work and creativity in cleverly fusing modern splashes with a traditional rural feel are what makes Verekinthos Villas unique and exclusive.
Lying at the foothills of the White Mountains, high castle-like stone walls shelter and embrace Verekinthos Villas. Set on the hillside, past the electric gate and parking area, the various levels offer several outdoor entertainment areas; large patio, terrace, barbeque area, hammock and a uniquely shaped swimming pool. Perched above all are the villas; made up still of three separate structures (main, second and third building).
Enjoy the ever changing landscape of the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) from our Villa in Chania, birds chirping and general serenity of this quiet and peaceful location.
In the village itself, which remains mostly untouched by time, the locals tend to crop and livestock and there is just one small traditional kafenion.
Gerolakos village and the surrounding area in general are ideal to sample the rural beauty of Crete, perfect for family getaways, nature lovers, hiking, trekking, outdoor activities, sampling traditional Cretan cuisine in out of the way mountain taverns and more.
Specifically, the neighbourig villages of Drakona, Therisso (with a gorge you drive through), Zourva and Meskla are an absolute must see. This beautifully scenic route is a most enjoyable drive with breathtaking views. Stop to pick herbs, gaze upon the rolling valleys and let the fresh air and glistening skies soothe your soul.
A short drive (16km) takes you quickly away from this tranquil mountainous setting and into the heart of Chania centre and the Venetian Old town. Drive easily on this good quality tarred road with no traffic. When travelling about 50km per hour, you will reach Chania in about 15 minutes.
This same road can be taken to quickly and easily reach the beach of Nea Chora (16,5km, 15 minute drive). Extending to the west on the same coastline there are several other nearby blue flag beaches such as Agii Apostoli, Platanias and Maleme.
This is just the place for you to enjoy quality family time yet have easy access to all the pleasures Crete has to offer.
